DEEPLYCOLONIALIZED 

Through my research and the development of my artworks, I encounter the image of the Holy Mary or Virgen and how it symbol has continuously lure different ethnicities (mostly in Latin American regions) to Christianity. In the time of Colonization religion was and still is a powerful mechanism of control and subjugation, mixing their faith with the phenotypes of the region bring; as a result this mixed-race images of virgins around the Latin community. 

Inspired by the Christian decoration of stain glass and African fabric design patterns, I illustrated a Black Latinx Virgin. Duality represents a rebellion against this emptiness and searches for power and control.
